Test on Single Cylinder Diesel Engine (Water Cooled)

Aim:

To conduct a test on a single cylinder vertical water cooled, four stroke cycle, stationary, constant speed diesel engine at No load, 25%, 50%, 75% and Full Load condition.

To determine:

  1. Brake Power
  2. Indicated Power
  3. Mechanical Effeciency
  4. Brake Thermal Effeciency
  5. Indicated Thermal Effeciency
  6. Total Fuel Consumption (Kg/hr)
  7. Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC)

Graphs to be plotted:

  1. Brake Power Vs M.f (Kg/sec)
  2. Percentage Load Vs Brake Power
  3. Percentage Load Vs Indicated Power
  4. Percentage Load Vs Mechanical Efficiency
  5. Percentage Load Vs Brake Thermal Eficiency
  6. Percentage Load Vs Indicated Thermal Efficiency
  7. Percentage Load Vs Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC)
  8. Percentage Load Vs M.f (Kg/sec)

Sheets to be made:

  1. Energy balance or Heat balance sheet

Engine & Dynamometer (Hydraulic) Specifications:

Procedure to be followed:

  1. Ensure that all boundaries bolts, propeller shaft, bolts are properly tightened.
  2. Keep the decompression lever in vertical ensure that engine stop lever. can be pulled towards engine is free and Cranking side for stopping the engine.
  3. Crank the engine slowly till fuel starts drilling out from loosened loosened nut then tighten the nut.
  4. Rotate the handle 5-6 rotation manually when flywheel has sufficient momentum make the decompression handle horizontal.
  5. Handle will release automatically and come out.
  6. Keep water circulation.
  7. Start the engine and allow it to for 5 min in idling Condition.
  8. Load the engine and rates of fuel and water take reading of flow of different points.
  9. Stop the engine after releasing load.

Observations:

  1. Patmospheric = 1 Bar
  2. Tambient = 27oC
  3. Max. Load = 8 Kg
